ARTBreast Exhibition at Impact Artists' Gallery

Sat Sept 22nd 7-10pm Bidders’ Live Auction of 24 ARTbreasts
There is a great buzz around town regarding 81 amazing ARTbreasts (created from display mannequins) at Impact Artists Gallery’s exhibition Altered Perceptions: A JOURNEY OF STRENGTH AND COURAGE. On Saturday September 22nd 7-10pm we offer oncology doctors, gynecology doctors, mammogram centers, MRI clinics and any hospital facility an opportunity to own and display an amazing ARTbreast for their reception rooms and personal offices. We urge the public to bid and donate an ARTbreast to a favorite medical facility “ in the honor of or memory of” a loved one who fought or is fighting a personal battle against breast cancer. Join us for the fun at our Bidders’ Live Auction, at which 24 ARTbreasts will be available to bid on. For this fundraiser tickets are $25 each, 2 for $40 and can be reserved early by calling the gallery. Lastly the remaining balance of ARTbreasts will be auctioned thru ‘BiddingforGood.com’ online in October, which should draw national attention. We invite you to join us for a great evening of fun including the excitement of bidding, music by Geno McManus, auctioneer Richard Bronstein, food served by the Professional Culinary Institute students, basket and 50/50 raffles. !

This Week In Review

Flea market and side of the road finds!!
I found this great vintage leather suitcase ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD! I know, right? Its AWESOME! Smells a little inside, but its old, so expected. A little fabreeze or baking soda should help. Its a great prop for pics or show display. Or maybe I'll sell it... don't know yet, but I love it!
That was Tuesday.
On Wednesday, I went to the Springville Fleamarket and found these great old tart tins and cake decorating kit! Not sure what I'll use them for yet, but I love these too! Look at the cute little metal, sectioned box for the tips!

This weekend is my 2nd Art Festival in as many months. It is the Quaker Arts Festival in Orchard Park, NY. Here's some pics of some of the work I finished for the show.

This is  called "Jorinda Waits". "Jorinda and Jorindel" is a Grimm's Fairy Tale. It's a tale about an old witch who lives in a castle in the forest. If young lovers wander too closely to her castle, she takes the young woman to her castle and turns her into a bird. In the story, Jorinda is turned into a bird and Jorindel rescues her by finding the magic red flower and touching her with it thus turning her back to a young woman. In MY story, Jorindel never comes and Jorinda, well, she waits, looking into a mirror on a wall seeing a reflection of what she was. Look close and you can see a young woman's face in the mirror.

On the lighter side, I created a memory pocket out of an old leather tool belt, a piece of hand-tatted lace, some of my vintage button flowers, an old photo, some fluffy plumes, a piece of sheet music and a rolled up letter. I tied it all together with some of Lisa Jurist's awesomely wonderful, hand-dyed silk sari ribbons.

On a happy note, hubby is home from the Round One 5 day in-hospital chemo treatment and on to his 2 week out-patient leg of this undesirable journey. Happy 'cuz he's home. Won't ever know for sure if it works(complicated), but will always keep the faith!

Pretty AND Gritty

 My latest project
I bought 2 mannequins at an extreme discount
I covered the torso with paper mache first to give it texture and hide the pin holes. The project just morphed as I went along and eventually turned (unintentionally) into something with personal meaning. Nothing but the color was preconceived. It has this gritty urban feel, prettied up with real butterfly wings (from the newly donated stash). Its not quite done yet, but I'm happy with the results. I can't wait to start the second one!

Rochester Museum and Science Center Women's Council Holiday Bazaar

I just got back from a weekend in Rochester, NY. I had been invited to do the Holiday Bazaar at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. I had never heard of this show before, so after I had been invited to participate, I went home and researched it some online. I found out it was a quality show with approximately 175 fine artists and craftspeople. Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw when I got there. The work was exceptional! I immediately called my husband to tell him about it. He asked me if I was flattered or intimidated. I said a little of both. If I had not been invited to this show, and had gone to it first, I'm pretty sure I would have thought I wasn't good enough to participate in it.

All my doubts went away when I heard all the wonderful comments about my work from all the people! The feed back was incredible! I met alot of awesome people, made some great friends, talked to alot of interesting people and made some money, too! I must say, this was by far the friendliest show I have ever done. I want to thank Christine DeTurck for inviting me to do this show!
As promised, I have included some (poor) pictures of my display. I had an odd space. It was 14 ft. long by 3 ft. wide in an entrance hall. It was just enough room for 2 6 ft. tables and my desk. There wasn't even enough room for me to sit in my space! Luckily, the woman next to me let me sit with her in her space. We became fast friends. Hi Kim!
There were some advantages to the space. Being in the entrance hall, everyone had to walk by. We were also located directly across from the restrooms, so all the vendors had to walk by too! It was also convenient, since I was basically by myself, I didn't have to leave my space too long when nature called!
All in all, I had a great show! I was a little nervous doing this show out of town with extra expenses to cover, but it all worked out fanastically and I would definitely do it again!
